Breakfast Porn: Bacon Nutella French Toast

I know. #icanteven.

I unapologetically posted this recipe for you so that each and every single one of you could say they’ve had this at some point in their lifetime. For me, it was life changing and I have no reason to believe it will be otherwise for you. That’s just what happens when you mix life’s glorious breakfast treats with Nutella. Actually, I think that happens when you mix anything with Nutella for that matter.

This French toast is one of the best things you’ll ever put in your mouth. So you might as well have it once. Just this once. It’s perfect and filled with the gloriousness that is melted Nutella and crispy bacon. It’s okay, I won’t tell anyone.

Serves: 4
Ingredients
  • 8 slices thick cut bacon
  • 1 medium-sized loaf challah, sliced into 8 pieces about ¾-inch thick
  • 4 heaping tablespoons Nutella
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup half and half
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar, packed
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Maple syrup for serving
Instructions
  1. Prepare bacon (pan fried or oven roasted) then let cool.
  2. Slice the challah into 8 pieces about ¾-inches thick.
  3. Spread one side of two pieces (to make a sandwich) of bread with a heaping teaspoon of Nutella.
  4. Sprinkle 1-2 pieces of crumbled bacon on one of the slices of bread then sandwich with the matching half.
  5. In a shallow baking dish, whisk together the eggs, half and half, whole milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  6. Place a large pan over medium-low heat.
  7. Add 2-3 of the Bacon-Nutella sandwiches to the mixture and let soak for 1 minute on each side.
  8. While the bread is soaking, add 1 tablespoon of butter to the pan. When it’s melted and hot, remove each sandwich from the egg mix and let any excess mix drip off.
  9. Fry in your pan 3-4 mins each side or until golden brown. Do not burn!
  10. You can cycle in the next batch of sandwiches into the mixture while the first set is cooking. Repeat until finished.
  11. Serve warm with syrup and feel free to top with powdered sugar or strawberries.
